In spite of my real goals published in the 1965 Yearbook, I returned to Illinois after MHS and attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. For activites, I played trumpet in the marching band, did photography, and worked as a firefighter in the Evanston Fire Dept. NU gave me a BA in English Lit, with Highest Distinction, Phi Beta Kappa, with Dept. Honors in English. I wrote a Masters in English before heading to Northwestern's Medical School in Chicago. I graduated in 1973 with an M.D. degree. Next came internship and a residency in Ophthalmology. After graduation, I practiced for two years in Chicago. In 1976, I was married to Jeannie Rushkewicz, a nurse I met in Medical School. Interestingly, her father was our family's letter carrier before we moved to Moscow. In 1978, we moved to Edmonds, WA and I started a solo practice in Ophthalmology which continues. In 1980, my first son Tim was born. After graduation from WSU in history and communications, he went to work for the BNSF Railway and is now an engineer, married, and living in Snohomish, WA. My second son, Kenny, is an avid pilot - starting his career at age 11 and earning his commercial pilots license and instrument rating before graduation from high school. He earned a BS from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical U. and has completed his jet training and is actively looking for a job as a commercial pilot. My third son, Daniel, is a senior in high school and undecided on a career.

Besides practicing medicine, I am a lieutenant in Snohomish County Fire District #1 (38 years as a firefighter), I edit two model railroad magazines, and immerse myself in photography. I am looking forward to the upcoming opportunity to spend time with old friends from MHS. There are lots of good memories.
