Brian S. Ayers, 65

Brian Scott Ayers died at his home in Spokane on May 24, 2013. He was born Aug. 11, 1947, in Spokane, to Dr. John and Marcia (McLean) Ayers who resided in Moscow. He was, as his mother says, “a lively little Dickens who was busy keeping up with his two older brothers.”

Brian attended Russell Elementary School, Moscow Junior High, and graduated from Moscow High School in 1965. Brian raised 4-H sheep and was a talented clarinetist.

He also enjoyed a reputation as a prankster throughout his school years. Brian attended the University of Idaho (U of I) and served in the U.S. Army in Germany, returning to the U of I to complete bachelor’s degrees in industrial education and in business.

Brian’s quest for adventure took him to New Zealand. While there he survived a motorcycle accident which left him with severe head injuries and compromised the rest of his life.

The family is comforted knowing that Brian is now able to fully engage in life without the physical and mental limitations that have confined him for many years.

Survivors include his father, Dr. John Ayers (Lois), of Houston; mother, Marcia Ogle, of Coeur d’Alene; brother, Dr. Jack Ayers (Jane) of Buckeye, Ariz.; brother, Steve Ayers (Mary), of Coeur d’Alene; aunt, Katherine Green, of Boise; niece, Cory Humble and nephew, David Humble; and nephews, James, John, Doug and David Ayers; and friend, Aaron Torosian, of Spokane.

Memorials may be sent to Union Gospel Mission, 1224 E. Trent Avenue, Spokane, WA 99202, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. A celebration of Brian’s life will be held later this summer.
