PHD from University of New Mexico 1975; teaching here and there, then research in northern Australia which I've done in stretches ever since 1976; in Papua New Guinea from 1980. My latest research is in Germany! I have two sons, James (b. 1987) and Jesse (b. 1988), and husband Alan Rumsey, also an anthropologist and linguist, he's working mainly in Papua New Guinea.
