I am still farming. My wife Janice retired in March 2013. We spend a lot of time on our 7 acres at our cabin just outside Elk River, Idaho. During the summer we are there most weekends and during the winter, we spend a little more time riding snowmobiles or Grooming Snowmobile trails. I volunteer time with the state grooming program based in Elk River (area 29) grooming trails, maintaining the equipment and providing the necessary paper work for expenses for the program. Our daughter Becky Pickard works for Genesee School District as a teacher, Athletic Trainer, and a Volunteer EMT with Genesee Fire Dept. Her husband Chad works for Frontier Communications and they have three of our five grandchildren. Their oldest Justin (21) is in his final years at U of I, pursuing a degree in Ag Education and plant science research. Dallan their middle child (19) is in his second year at U of I pursuing a degree in Virtual Technology, and their youngest Mattie (17) is a senior at Genesee. She plans to attend U of I next year to begin her Nurse Practitioner education, or PA. Our Daughter Debby Carscallen works for Moscow School Dist. as a Athletic Trainer and substitute teacher and ISAT test proctor. She is also a Paramedic with MedStar Helicopter EMS Services working with the ground ambulance services and a Volunteer Paramedic with Moscow Volunteer Ambulance. Her husband Dan Carscallen works for North Latah County Highway Dist. is a Moscow City Counci! Our lives revolve around family and friends and our community. My dad is still living (93) and so far doing well on his own in Clarkston Washington. We visit him a lot, but he amazes us all. I farm with my brother Monte, about 3000 acres of wheat and barley. Mostly fall wheat. Barley is our spring crop. I have not decided when I will retire. My wife keeps telling me we are not getting any younger and we will be married 50 years on September 2, 2016. Time flies when you are pursing your dreams. |
